Olde Hansa is a restaurant in the center of Tallinn with an atmosphere that recreates medieval life. All of the staff wear period-appropriate costumes and perform medieval musical displays for guests, while portions are generous so diners can choose to share dishes.
I love the style and originality of this place. I didn't enjoy the food though, not because it was badly made, but mostly because I tried to experiment something I have never had before.🤣🤣🤣 Please stick to food you are familiar with as that's enjoyable. I like that the had menus in different languages and how the serf played her role perfectly. The beer wasn't bad for someone who isn't a beer drinker and wanted to try something original. I also like that it's located almost at the center of key tourist sites. If you are a medieval fan you will sure be happy to have the experience.

Bear meat was very good. I liked fish salad too. They have very nice cinnamon beer also, strongly suggested.Waitress was very helpful, tried to explain all dishes in detail. Attitude towards customers was very joyful and friendly.Luckily I was there when they had live traditional songs, listened while having food. Also place is very close to everywhere and in the middle of street. I would like to visit again and try other dishes too next time.Suggested 🙌

I came here without any planning. I have never seen anything like this before. Everything here is from Medieval Time. Even the waiters are wearing Medieval Garments. The plates, the vibe, everything is like you have traveled back in time. The service is outstanding, and extremely friendly. The food is very strange. They recommend a cheese and bread appetizer platter that was excellent! It’s different kind of cheeses melted and infused with herbs, with a piece of bread that also has herbs and nuts. My main dish was Deer. The meat was good in general, but the different sides tastes strange. Some of it a little sweet. It’s a good dish overall, but not excellent. They have live Medieval band playing music too. It’s a nice place to have a new experience, but food-wise, not the greatest.

Decided to go here, as going to a medieval-style tavern was always on my bucket list. Did I just go back in time to the 1400s? The experience I had here was unreal. Lovely staff who clearly love their jobs as medieval re-enactors. The game soup was indeed hearty, and the beer expensive, but generous. Even just stopping here for a drink is well worth it if you are on a budget. Warm interiors with medieval style.Ps. They even put the date as 1400 A.D. on the reciept!

We had a fun visit to Olde Hansa! Their menu variety (particularly in the meat department) was just WILD! As pescatarians our options were a little more limited, but still found something good to eat. The beer and drink options were pretty varied and the light honey beer and herb beer was pretty good. The food didn’t blow our minds, but the vibes were impeccable! The servers were all in costume and so friendly and helpful! The guy who greeted us when we came in truly made our night, he was so funny and nice! The decorations were also very cool and authentic-seeming!

Step Back in Time at Olde Hansa – An Authentic Medieval Dining Experience!Olde Hansa in the heart of the old town is a truly unique and highly recommended experience. From the moment you walk in, you are transported to the Middle Ages. The medieval-style decor, dim lighting from real candles, and candle-lit tables create an atmosphere like no other. The staff, dressed in authentic medieval attire, further enhance the immersive experience, and even the restrooms match the theme – a delightful and unexpected touch! The restaurant is also pet-friendly, making it a perfect choice for all visitors. The food was simply amazing, with traditional dishes that reflect the historical setting. We had the bear dish and the flavors were remarkable, paired with their medieval beverages.Although the prices are on the higher side, the experience is well worth it. Between the exceptional food, attentive service, and one-of-a-kind atmosphere, it’s an experience you won’t forget.I’ll definitely be returning to relive the magic of this place. If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience that takes you back in time, Olde Hansa is the place to be!

A real authentic restaurant from the Middle Ages. It is also furnished accordingly. The staff are dressed in medieval costumes and, funnily enough, you are addressed as "My Lord". They are very friendly and helpful when you order. The prices are a bit higher but the food is definitely worth the money. This is definitely an experience you have to try when you are in Tallinn. A clear recommendation from my side.

Great experience! Amazing food, and such a unique atmosphere. This restaurant is highly recommended. We had a blast and the people working there did amazing work in character. We loved it!!! Don't forget that you get 15% off when you use the Tallinn card before you pay.

Nice restaurant, food is a bit pricey but the medieval theme throughout and the clear care that goes into the food makes up for that. All the food on the menu is similar to the food that was eaten during medieval times. we had the salmon and the lamb when we went to visit, both very tasty lamb was extremely tender. The vibrant flavours achieved using very few ingredients is quite impressive. Only negative is that the food was quite expensive. Two people with a starter and dessert to share two drinks and two mains was €90.

*Really* looks like a tourist trap... but is delightful! I'm no expert on the authenticity of the recipes but the food was certainly unusual and delicious, and we really enjoyed the live music that was played by 3 people using medieval instruments throughout the evening. Bonus surprise: the cheesecake was truly unlike any I've ever had before, I loved it.

A must visit place but you do feel like it is a tad of a tourist trap but who cares, it’s a bit of fun as all the staff are in character and that’s the charm of the place. The menu is very game meat driven so if you don’t like that I suggest dont come. Order a stein to wash down the game menu down. I had the mix sausages and they were very lovely. I wasn’t too sure whether I would order the bear but I’m glad I did as it was actually good.

Highly recommended! Located in the old town, is styled to transport you to the Middle Ages. From the moment you enter, the medieval interior, candle-lit tables, and dim atmosphere make you feel like you've stepped back in time. The staff, dressed in authentic medieval clothing, add to the immersive experience. Even the restroom is designed to match the theme, which was a delightful surprise! Plus, it's pet-friendly, making it a perfect spot for all. The unique ambiance, excellent food, and helpful staff ensure a memorable visit. I’ll definitely be returning!

Nice medieval theme restaurant in Old town (Pricey for Tallinn and Europe)Very Friendly Staff! Me and friends sat in the second floor. As it wasn't full blown tourist season, some of the dishes weren't available but the staff made sure we had something tasty to have while taking into account the allergies.Do taste their Honey beer. The spiced/herb beer were okay but honey dark beer was amazing

Great experience of dining in a medieval tavern. Try to sit on the inside. The interior decorations, music, crockery and even staff uniforms are an amazing treat! Even the toilets follow the theme! The food was fine. Had the hearty soup, wild boar and kids smoked chicken. Tasty but nothing too great. The cinnamon beer was really nice!

Awesome day… me and my husband had made dinner reservations three weeks before our trip to Tallinn. And the vegetarian option was as tasty as it could be. But I must berate about the ambiance it was medieval era to the core❤️🔥 And also their lovely in house vine. Oh my god never tasted such spicy brewed vine ever, it was that delicious that I still remember the taste as I am writing this review after almost 15 days. And the waitress who served was very friend And beautiful 🙈 I must say.. that I had to take a pic with her and she was much obliged to do so. Overall best decision to visit the old town of Tallinn ❤️

I went there twice once I just enjoy mushrooms soup outside for brunch and come back for dinner and I tried the salmon food. The mushrooms is really good. The salmon is good too. I really like the atmosphere and the decorations. The waitress and waiter are really friendly, helpful and quickly. You may wait for the food a little bit long but it's worth and I think we should sympathy .

Wow! What a great experience! A "bucket list" stop for everyone visiting Tallinn. From the building, furniture to the menu and the staff, everything is amazingly authentic themed as a tavern of the Hansa era. All food and drinks are made from traditional/historical recipes with specific spices. Food prepared that way is slightly pricier than "off the shelf production", so expect the stay to not be the cheapest in town. There's still some reasonably priced options available (the salads among others, that are anyway healthier 😉). The dark honey beer and the light cinnamon beer were as tasteful as the greenery dishes (quite big portions, see pictures) and the special coffee (with spices and whipped cream). The staff was really friendly and helpful in both English and German. Service was quite quick (Friday at 12:30). Food and goods can be bought at the shop.

Really the most memorable and atmospheric restaurant I've ever been to. Especially if you're a history buff like me!Only drinks this time (which I am counting as food for the review) and I just love the Olde Hansa Honey Beer. Served in a clay pitcher the sweet alcoholic yummy goodness when drank in candlelight is bound to get a smile on your face.A must see, every time when visiting Tallinn!

Visited 27th Feb 24Service was obviously very good, staff were role playing. 😊Premise was authentic as it was dim and had tonnes of wood.Would have been nicer if the cutlery were more authentic too that would have really set the mood.Food was good but not great well of course it's due to the fact that this is more of a tourist attraction. Our server was great too but did hint for us to give a tip - which was odd - but I was ready to give it to him anyway. He was great so nothing wrong with his tip.I loved the honey beer.Liked the sausage platter.Liked the hearty soup. Was ok with the fish platter. In a nutshell, come here if this is your first time in Estonia, yes it costs more but how often will you be in a premise like this. And btw, make sure to visit the toilet too. 😅😅 It's nice ya.

I’d give 6 stars if I could. Is a “tourist” place but feels so authentic. Atmosphere is awesome, feels like you’re in the 1400s.Had the best service by a great guy who not just gave me food and drinks recommendations as well as local things to do while in Tallin. Service was 10/10.Food was really nice as well, had a tasting platter, a mushroom soup and some grilled cheese. All super yum.

Dining at Olde Hansa is not just about the food though the bear stew is certainly a highlight but about being transported back to a different era. It’s an experience that is loved by both tourists and locals. The food is hearty, the atmosphere is captivating, and it’s a chance to enjoy something truly different. The bear dish in particular adds a layer of authenticity and adventure to the medieval feast, making Olde Hansa a memorable stop in Tallinn. Highly recommend

Tho the decorations are amazing and they even have a live music show, and the attention is 5⭐, I think the plates are not good enough. The sea salad is quite good but the duck is just a mess, good idea but the exection is just terrible, this doesn't match the high prices because at the end of the day people is there to eat. Such a pitty, many friends recommended this place but it was I who had the bad experience. Maybe some other time, maybe someone else.

The best restaurant in Tallinn! The ambience was incredible and can make you travel to the medieval times. From the cutlery, to the tables, the decoration, the music and the traditional outfit of the staff, everything was outstanding! The food was excellent with a great variety of local dishes with international notes. Very big beer and dessert selection. On top of everything the staff was extremely friendly! I would 1000% return to this gem!

This was just fun. Yes, very touristy, but fun. The serving staff are great and the food was great. Several good vegetarian options. I'd skip the juniper cheese appetizer as it was just mozzarella with seasoning. I was expecting a more exciting cheese option, goat cheese would be amazing. The bread was delicious! We did the turnip platter and that was fantastic, a flaming turnip and a few other small garnishes. Between the two appetizers it was enough for two of us with smaller appetites.

If I could give 6 stars for the atmosphere, I would!Everything is set up like in the medieval times, including the glasses and plates. It was a bit dark, but that just added to the atmosphere. The food was excellent as well, albeit a bit pricey. The service and atmosphere made it well with it though!

It is a very interesting place. It’s medieval themed and definitely like we were one, given the variety of spreads. We ordered cinnamon and ginger beer🍺 which was one of the best beers I have ever had!Ordered sea food platter- it was all and only smoked and Lentil bean salad. Both were really good.Overall, a place with Great service and great food. It’s definitely a must visit place.

As tourist places go, this a really nice trap to find yourself in ;). The staff are lovely and in their medieval roles. I had the dark herb beer and the bear, both very unique and well prepared. I personally don’t like strong cloves/cinnamon flavours so both the beer and the red wine sauce were challenging for me, but I appreciate the high quality of ingredients and the great experience overall.

Well I went in for the bear and I was unsure but from being welcomed in by staff all in character the process was really niceThe cinnamon beer was really nice I also had mushroom soup which was unreal and the bear tasted amazing was like a richer more flavourful lamb recommend the portion was plentiful

I cannot recommend Olde Hansa enough! Eating here was the highlight of our Tallinn trip and we would travel back to Tallinn just to eat here. The atmosphere is fun and immersive, the food is delicious, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Don’t come to Tallinn without stopping here for a meal! I highly recommend the duck, the rose pudding, and the bread with juniper cheese—amazing!

If you want to experience medieval kings’ meal, that’s the place!

Came here to try the bear meat for the first time. The restaurant is nicely decorated as the medieval era and staff are all dressed up as such. We tried a few of their local beer, soup and the bear meat. Overall the place is beautiful and the food was good but nothing too special that I would go back for more.

The service and atmosphere was great. Neat costumes, 'Ye Olde' accents and wonderful decor, which makes you feel like you're in the time setting. Though there was an odd push by our server to have people drink more by referring to the .5 L beer as the ladies cup. As for the beer itself, the Herbal beer was interesting to try and much better than the honey beer, which was overly sweet.. Get the .5 L cup as it is much more medieval looking, than the L cup.We came for the bear meat and it was a huge let down and not worth 68 Euros. The 'steak' was thin and burger-like and slopped with sauce. Ultimately, the bear meat was flavourless. It reminded me of a "Hungry Man's Salisbury Steak" Microwave dinner. The sides were better, but didn't make you feel the value. Overall, I'd recommend the experience, but maybe try a different dish.

I went here for lunch alone and had a good experience, although the food was a little below expectations. I got the haggis which tasted mushy like it came out of a can, nothing like the haggis I remember from Scotland and was craving. The game soup was better, with a tasty broth, although the meat was a bit tough. The service was incredible, as were the different schnapps I tried. After getting my bill I was asked for a tip, which was surprising, because even in America no self respecting waiter actually asks you to tip. Still, the service was good, so I did tip in the end. There is a gift shop connected to the restaurant where I got a bottle of the excellent Gold Gruber to go. If I ever come back here, it will probably be for a special occasion.

In the heart of Tallinn Old Town , you can find this traditional place but its better to have reservation before you go there! They have a beautiful tradition ambient which are designed based on the history of the city! They have a menu full of food and drinks which you can easily choose and pair based on your taste. Although we waited 45 minutes to order our meal but it was worth it! The lady “Helena” who served us with patience and smile (although she was so busy with crowds) , explained us all details and helped us to choose the best options! The staff will tell you the story of the place and foods and there is a group of musicians who plays traditional music while you are eating! The price a little but high respect to the quality but totally, we were happy that we spend 3 hours at this place with good meals and tasty drinks .

Olde Hansa was a fun and memorable dining experience. I went there specifically for the brown bear meal and it was delicious. The medieval theme of the restaurant, while a bit silly, really adds to the vibe and makes it enjoyable. They have lots of interesting dishes and the staff were accommodating and helpful. There’s lots of outdoor seating so the people watching is great. This is a cool place for an interesting meal in Tallinn.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at this charming restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. The young team provided exceptionally attentive service, offering thoughtful recommendations and taking the time to explain each dish in detail. The food was fantastic—definitely on the pricier side, but every bite was worth it. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, beautifully capturing the style of the historic Hanseatic times. A truly delightful experience!

Good interior, reasonable food, slow service! Disappointed after having such a charismatic waiter last night in Tallinn, to having a waiter in full medieval costume not living up to the character, instead he was abrupt and unapproachable. Would recommend the toilets!

The Olde Hansa restaurant is a unique place where you'll be transported back to the medieval era and enjoy all the wonders of that time. The historical atmosphere, recreated down to the smallest details, makes you feel like a guest in a time loop, finding yourself in the Middle Ages. The restaurant's menu impresses with a variety of medieval dishes and liqueurs prepared by true masters. However, it's worth noting that specifically in our case, the service wasn't very good: our table was dirt, and the waitstaff weren't always attentive to us. Nevertheless, visiting Olde Hansa is an amazing journey into the past that will leave unforgettable impressions.Additionally, there's a shop offering superb goods in the medieval style, adding to the overall experience.
